Strength Training
Last week, 4th grade students at SDA Elementary were introduced to strength training. Strength training is exercise in which weight is moved. Often times that weight is moved by a pushing motion or a pulling motion. Some of the benefits of strength training include increased size and strength of the muscles, improved bone density (thickness & hardness), stronger connective tissue (tendons & ligaments), improved heart health, improved blood sugar control, and improved metabolism. It's a great way to improve your overall fitness and athletic ability. Students used 9 lb and 12 lb barbells to complete the workout.

why did you do body fat percentages, Darin Burr does not have as much body fat as you said, he onoly weighs 64 pounds.
ReplyDeleteLooking at Darin's BF%, he appears to have a very healthy body composition. In fact, Darin's score falls within the healthy range for males ages 8-17. That healthy range is 7-25% body fat. Being 64 pounds, it is absolutely possible that he does have that much body fat. I have tested students for years now and have seen this type of body composition in many healthy kids. This test is important because many health issues can arise when a child in on one extreme or the other --- way too much body fat or way too little. Darin on the other hand, seems to be very healthy regarding BF% so you have nothing to worry about. Thanks for the question.
